Our church roof is old! It has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced before major damage happens to our church building. Minor leaks have happened in the past. These leaks were repaired, piecemeal, as they occurred.
The Building and Grounds Committee, composed of people with building construction knowledge, held a walking tour of St. Gregory the Great’s facilities in August 2021. After the walking tour, it was determined that the condition of the roofing system was a high concern. The committee met with various experts to determine the best course of action to protect our church building. It was determined that it is necessary to replace the entire roof system.
The existing roof was installed according to the building codes current at the time of construction. The building codes have changed over time. The new roof will need to be installed in compliance with the current building codes.
Compliance with the current building codes also requires that the church lighting systems be modified as part of the roof replacement. When the church was built, the electrical conduit for the interior lighting was installed through the roofing system. New electrical conduit now needs to be placed in the church ceiling.
This entire project will be expensive! Through the generosity of parishioners over the years we are blessed with a capital reserve that should cover the costs of the required roof and electric work.
The Raise the Roof Campaign is a means for parishioners and others to help St. Gregory the Great Parish meet the costs of these expensive projects. Envelopes for the Raise the Roof Campaign are available in the Gathering Space. Or, checks may simply be noted “Raise the Roof”. Please be generous in giving to this campaign.
